The surface active properties of our lignin-based products causes interactions with the surfaces of growing crystals. Different interactions with different surfaces will alter the growth rate and the habitat of the crystals as well. The complexing properties of lignin-based products will in many cases favour a dissolution-precipitation mechanism for crystal growth over a solid state mechanism, which will also alter the habitat of the crystal.

Particles size distribution of lead sulphate grown from dilute suspensions of lead oxide in sulphuric acid. The original lead oxide is shown together along with the results of the test with and without lignosulphonates present.
